Day In The Life Of Billy
Billy and his owner, Mr Beardsell arrive for their appointment at Vale Referrals and check in with Barbara, one of our receptionists.
Mr Beardsell has a consultation with the referral vet, Carol Wright where a full history is taken and a thorough clinical examination takes place. Billy has suddenly developed a lump, that may be related to a stick injury.
Carol discusses his problems with the owner and the possible options for treatment, the costs involved, the prognosis and how long Billy will need to stay with us.
Carol discusses the plan for the day with Billy's dedicated nurse Julie.
Julie weighs Billy in preparation for his anaesthetic and then settles him in his own kennel in the dog ward.
Carol and Julie administer the anaesthetic to Billy.
Once asleep investigations start with radiography. Animals are anaesthetised to carry out an x-ray, to keep them completely still and to get the optimum x-rays. The number of times an animal is anaesthetised is kept to an minimum by scheduling procedures one after the other wherever possible.
While Billy is still anaesthetised, Carol and Julie use ultrasound as part of the diagnostic investigation for his lump.
Carol updates Billy's owner Mr Beardsell with the days findings and arranges a time for Billy to go home whilst further test results are awaited. The referring vet is also updated and sent a report.
Billy is reunited with his owner.
