Aiden Foster

Aiden Foster completed degrees in Biology (BSc University of Nottingham) and Veterinary Science (BVSc University of Bristol) before working as an assistant veterinarian in mixed general practice for four years. He developed an interest in dermatology and studied with Professor Philip Duffus (University of Bristol) completing a PhD in aspects of allergic skin disease in the cat (1995) and the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons certificate in small animal dermatology. He completed a two year residency in veterinary dermatology with Professors Doug DeBoer and Karen Moriello at the School of Veterinary Medicine, Madison, Wisconsin, USA. He is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology.

From 1997 to 2004 he was a lecturer then senior lecturer in veterinary dermatology at the University of Bristol. His research interests where particularly focused on feline allergic skin disease and he has published a number of papers on skin diseases in camelids, cats, dogs and hamsters.

Aiden was secretary of the European Society of Veterinary Dermatology for six years and became president in 2007. He has an adjunct teaching appointment as a special associate professor with the University of Nottingham School of Veterinary Medicine and Science. He has been editor-in-chief of the Wiley-Blackwell journal Veterinary Dermatology since September 2006.

He has been with the Veterinary Laboratories Agency since 2004 and is based at the Shrewsbury regional laboratory, Shropshire, England and has particular interests in dermatology, alpacas, reindeer, clinical chemistry and publishing. He has been an author of published papers on sheep, cattle and goat skin conditions.
